About the Press

Presentation of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid

Since the mid-20th century, the University of Valladolid has had its own publishing service, which began operating during the 1948–1949 academic year, following the enactment of the Law on the Organization of Spanish Universities of July 29, 1943. This law provided for the creation of University Secretariats for Publications, Scientific Exchange, and Extension, entrusted with broad and varied functions—chief among them, the promotion of university book publishing as a reflection of the teaching and research activities of academic staff.

During the 1980s, the Secretariat for Publications and Scientific Exchange of the University of Valladolid underwent significant development. All university publications were centralized under this office, while staff numbers increased and became more professionalized, and its budget grew accordingly. As a result, the volume and quality of its publishing output improved substantially. Since then, the publishing service of the University of Valladolid has played an essential role in disseminating academic knowledge and the outcomes of scientific research.

Subsequently, the university’s publishing service adopted the name Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid (EdUVa), and it is currently governed by the regulations approved by the Governing Board on November 11, 2018 (see the section Regulations of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid).

Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid is a member of UNE (Unión de Editoriales Universitarias Españolas), the association that represents and advocates for the interests of Spanish university presses.
