Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • This is an original and unpublished work that has not been previously published, nor is it under consideration by any other publisher.
  • The proposal file is in Microsoft Word format, and the images or tables (if any) are inserted in their corresponding place in the book (images should not be sent in separate files from the book, but should be included in the book itself).
  • The text complies with the rules for the presentation of originals and the book format indicated in the "Publication proposals: Guidelines for authors" section of the Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid website.
  • If I am submitting a research book, I have ensured, for the purpose of anonymous evaluation, that I have not included any data that would allow me to be identified.
  • When submitting an article, in "Step 3. Enter metadata", do not forget to include the title of the book, its keywords and its summary in Spanish and English in the boxes established to include data in both languages (IT IS ESSENTIAL TO INCLUDE THE TITLE OF THE BOOK, THE KEY WORDS AND THE ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH). Do not fill in the "Prefix" or "Subtitle" boxes, and enter the full title of the article in the "Title" box. The keywords must appear inside their box separated from each other in different boxes, for which you must press "Enter" on the computer keyboard after writing each of the keywords (if you do not press "Enter" after including each keyword, all keywords will remain in the same box, and the system and databases will misinterpret them as a single keyword).
  • In the same "Step 3, "Enter metadata", in the "Authorship and collaborators" section, you must include in the corresponding boxes your first and last name, your email address, the name and country of your institution and a brief “Biographical Summary” of about 200 words containing the most notable data of your academic career and your current professional category.
  • In the "Note to the publisher" section below, please include your personal information (necessary for the formalization of the eventual publishing contract), your mailing address and telephone number. Also include the specific characteristics of the work, explaining whether it is financed.

Author Guidelines

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS

1. Research books submitted for publication must consist of original and unpublished works.

2. Manuscript submission: Book proposals must be submitted through the Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid website. Authors must first register with a username and password by clicking on the "Register" tab located in the upper right corner of the page. After registering, authors should log in with their chosen username and password, click on "Start a New Submission," and follow the platform instructions. Further guidance can be found in the Author Guide: How to Submit a Book Proposal to the Publisher. Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid will not return digital copies of manuscripts to authors; they will be destroyed if the proposal is rejected.

3. Books may be published exclusively in digital format, exclusively in print, or in both formats simultaneously.

4. Following successful evaluation (see below), and in accordance with the University of Valladolid’s institutional policy on open access to scholarly output, research books will be published immediately in open access, free of charge, on the Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid website and other related digital platforms. Print editions may also be produced. After publication, authors may deposit the work in institutional or subject-based open-access repositories, indicating that the book was originally published by Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid.

5. University teaching manuals and certain book series will be published preferably in print. In the case of popular science books, Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid will decide on print or digital format, taking into account the preferences of the author(s) or editor(s).

6. In no case will proposals for unfinished works or those requiring revision be accepted. All submissions must be complete, final manuscripts. Authors are strongly encouraged to thoroughly review their work—updating content, bibliography, and polishing the writing—before submission. Once submitted, changes will only be permitted in response to reviewer comments in the selection process described below.

7. Manuscripts must adhere to the Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation, available at: [Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation]. The book format should follow the template available here: [Book Format Template], unless a special layout is justified. Manuscripts that do not comply with these requirements will be rejected without further review.

8. Except in exceptional cases, authors who have published a single-author book with Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid may not submit another proposal as sole author until at least two years after the previous book’s publication.

9. If the manuscript has received financial support, this must be disclosed at the time of submission.

10. If the work includes a preface, it must be submitted no later than with the first corrected proofs. After this stage, for technical reasons related to layout, no further prefaces will be accepted.

11. If the book contains figures, photographs, graphs, maps, or other illustrations, the author must provide written certification of ownership or permission to reproduce them.

12. Review process: All submitted books will first undergo an initial review to ensure they comply with the Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation and Book Format Template. The following elements will be assessed: overall presentation, structural coherence, quality and correctness of language, adequacy of bibliographic references, consistency of citation style, originality and novelty of content, and its potential contribution to the field. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will be rejected at this stage. All submissions will also be screened using plagiarism detection software, and any that do not comply with the publisher’s Good Practice Guidelines of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid will be rejected.

13. If revisions are required after the initial review, the author will be notified accordingly. A corrected version of the manuscript (Word format) must then be submitted to Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid.

14. University teaching manuals, institutional publications, and popular science works may be approved for publication after the initial review. Research books (whether part of a series or not) will undergo a second evaluation to assess content quality, carried out by external subject specialists through a double-blind peer review. Authors must ensure that no identifying information is included in their manuscripts.

15. In the second review, the reviewers will assess the work’s originality, scientific significance, methodological rigor, structure and clarity, familiarity with the current state of the field, adequacy of references, and other relevant factors. Two positive reviews are required for publication. Manuscripts receiving two negative reviews will not be published. In cases of one positive and one negative review, a third review will be requested; if the third review is negative, the manuscript will be rejected; if positive, the process will continue.

16. To ensure high publication standards, Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid will send reviewers’ reports to authors, who should carefully consider them and revise their manuscript as needed.

17. If a manuscript receives two positive reviews, the author must submit a revised version (Word format), incorporating reviewers’ suggestions, within sixty days, along with a report detailing the changes made. Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid will then make a final publication decision, which will be communicated to the author with a reasoned report. If approved, the book will proceed to production. The final publication will indicate that the work has passed external double-blind peer review.

18. Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid will strive to process submissions efficiently. By submitting a manuscript, authors agree not to submit the work simultaneously to another publisher. Should an author withdraw the submission after the review process has begun, any associated costs must be covered by the author.

19. All parties involved in the editorial process must adhere to the provisions set forth in the "Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)" section of the "Editorial Policy" section.

20. Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid will determine the technical specifications of publication (paper, print run, format, cover, etc.). All communications with the printer will be managed by the author through Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid. For printed books, authors will receive, as royalties, 10% of the print run.

Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation

Authors must comply with the Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation available here: [Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation (EdUVa)]. Manuscripts that do not comply will be returned to the author without review.

Book Format Template

The Book Format Template can be downloaded here: [Book Format Template (EdUVa)]. Authors may copy and paste their text into this template, preserving its format. If a different format is required, this should be noted during submission (in the “Notes to the Editor” field in Step 4 of the online submission process).

Conditions for Authors Regarding Self-Archiving of Research Monographs

Research books that successfully pass peer review will be published immediately in open access on the Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid website and related digital platforms, and may also be published in print. After open-access publication, authors may deposit their work in open-access institutional or subject repositories, provided they acknowledge that the book was originally published by Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid.

Good Practice Guidelines of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid

These Good Practice Guidelines of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid constitute the publisher’s ethical code of conduct, applying to all participants in the book publishing process—authors, the Editorial Committee of EdUVa, and reviewers. All parties are requested to comply with the guidelines relevant to their role.
