SOCIOLINGUISTIC ATLAS OF THE PROVINCE OF SORIA. QUESTIONS OF ATTITUDE AND PERCEPTUAL DIALECTOLOGY.

Atlas sociolingüístico de la provincia de Soria: cuestiones de actitud y dialectología perceptual is an original study because never before had a linguistic atlas been made based on how certain linguistic phenomena are perceived by the speakers of a community. This work, therefore, opens a new avenue of research in sociolinguistics and perceptual dialectology, since the attitudes of the members of the province of Soria are discovered and represented through 130 maps, where the importance of the rural world coexists with the influence of its small capital and the characteristics of Aragonese speech are mixed and blurred with those of Castilian speech as one moves westward. Taking into account the factors of age, sex, place and education, the attitude of Soria's inhabitants towards everyday linguistic acts is commented on and, in addition, the degree of homogeneity of the perceptions of their own language is measured, since, in truth, the use or disuse of a linguistic fact is determined by the acceptance or rejection of its speakers.
