This book is a monograph on the history of housing and urban history whose object of study is a type of single-family public housing of the early Franco regime: the “ultra-bargain houses” that were projected by the Obra Sindical del Hogar of the National Delegation of Trade Unions in Spain in the 1940s, and, more specifically, the groups promoted by General Juan Yagüe Blanco for Burgos, Miranda de Ebro, Soria and Logroño. The shantytowns of General Yagüe were groups of ultra-bargain protected housing of the Obra Sindical del Hogar built for a small part of the inhabitants of infravivienda, supposing for their beneficiaries the abandonment of caves, shacks and slums even at the cost of having to live far from the city, They meant for the Movement an achievement of the social justice they proclaimed (hence they became elements of propaganda against a reality of repression, poverty and injustice), and forming a historical testimony of an ideology, of some limitations, contradictions and improvisations, and of some ways of doing of the housing policy of the first Franco regime. In this way, the ultra-peripheral groups of ultra-barren, semi-rural, ground-floor houses on plots of more than 330 m2 were an unusual but somehow significant manifestation of Spanish social housing in the twentieth century.
