Synopsis

This volume presents a contribution in which the respective authors not only provide an update on the historiographical knowledge concerning Simón Ruiz and the world of business during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, but also establish new avenues for future scholarly inquiry. The Simón Ruiz Chair of the University of Valladolid shall persist in this endeavor through its various annual activities, provided that circumstances remain favorable and no further disruptions arise. In conclusion, I wish to express my gratitude to the Fundación Museo de las Ferias of Medina del Campo and its staff for the assistance and, above all, the collaboration provided during the organization of the Congress held on June 27 and 28, 2016. Special recognition must be extended to Antonio Sánchez del Barrio, Diana Peláez Flores, and David Carvajal de la Vega, who served as essential contributors to all conference-related tasks. Furthermore, I would like to thank Banco Santander, specifically in the person of José María Pino Muela, for his encouragement and financial support. Finally, I acknowledge all congress participants and attendees who engaged actively in the debates. It is hoped that the objective established for this congress—to update the historical figure of Simón Ruiz—has been successfully achieved.
