Synopsis

This work focuses on the figure of the veteran and their social environment in the provinces of the Western Roman Empire (Hispania, Britannia, and Gallia) during the early Roman Empire. Through a meticulous examination of epigraphic monuments that capture social structures, the author analyzes the spaces of sociability of veterans, highlighting the people who accompanied former soldiers until their final moments or who commemorated their memory. This model of analysis not only affects purely military aspects, but also the onomastics, legal status, demographics, social advancement, and religious beliefs of the individuals depicted in the inscriptions.
