This book is an analysis of the history of Somalia from the country's independence in 1960 to the beginning of the civil war in 1991. However, in this book you will not find a general history, but an analysis of regional relations in the Horn of Africa to understand Somalia's attitude towards its neighboring states, i.e. Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti, during the Cold War period. Throughout its chapters the reader will approach two stages of recent Somali history: the Republic (1960-1969) and the socialist regime of Siad Barre (1969-1991). With this, the aim is to delve into a complex field of study, but one that provides the keys to understanding the subsequent development of the region. All this is analyzed from the perspective of three disciplines: Contemporary History, International Relations and African Studies.
