The Hispanic World in the Literature of Alexander Lernet-Holenia

Alexander Lernet-Holenia (1897-1976) is today a little-known writer, although he is in the process of recovery. His work was quite well known in his time and he became president of the Austrian PEN Club from 1969 to 1972, a post from which he resigned voluntarily. In the 1960s and 1970s he was widely translated in Spain and, from the 1990s onwards, some of his works were again published in Spanish. His personal and, above all, literary links with the Hispanic world - so palpable and, until now, scarcely studied - is what this book tries to convey, covering practically his entire output (poetry, drama, novels and short stories), highly praised at the time by none other than his personal friend Rainer Maria Rilke, among many other writers, and which today deserves a clear vindication.
