The text is composed of a documentary collection, 300 documents, concerning the correspondence of the Queen of Portugal, Catherine of Austria, with her brother, Emperor Charles, and her nephew, Philip II. In it, the queen presents, in addition to all the news related to her family and health, the problems arising in the kingdom of Portugal, especially during the period when the queen became regent during the minority of the future king, her grandson, Don Sebastian. Furthermore, in the letters, the monarch follows all the twists and turns of European politics that affect the House of Austria, advising and encouraging Philip II regarding his decisions.
The documentary collection consists of an introduction, with different headings, which summarizes all the aspects contained in the correspondence.
