Synopsis

Increasing life expectancy and the aging population in Spain have led to an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases, which represents a significant challenge for the National Health System (NHS). This phenomenon is accentuated by a population pyramid with a narrow base, highlighting a large number of older people. Advances in technology and medicine have allowed for greater survival rates from diseases that were once fatal; however, the management of these diseases is not uniform, varying according to sex, age, and regional characteristics.
