GÉNERO, MÚSICA, IDENTIDAD. LA PANDERETA EN CANTABRIA
Keywords:
musicidentitySynopsis
The tambourine (frame drum called in Spain pandereta) has played, and continues to play, a central role in the recognition of Cantabrian identity. Through an analysis of the instrument’s organological characteristics, its functions, performance contexts, playing techniques, and repertoires, this book explores several historical and cultural factors that, since the late nineteenth century, have contributed to shaping the main transformations in the field of traditional Cantabrian music. It is a journey through memory, guided by the voices of several pandereteras—women recognized by their communities as custodians of an ancient musical knowledge.
