Synopsis

This study examines the history of pottery and ceramic ware produced in the Iberian Peninsula, focusing on the precise form of each object as well as the function for which it was created. Although hundreds of types of vessels and containers have been described, a detailed analysis of the significance of each piece in daily life has been largely lacking — particularly regarding how its shape revealed its use and reflected its social purposes.

Jugs, pitchers, basins, jars, and hundreds of ceramic utensils have been among the principal instruments contributing to human survival, well-being, and social status.

The chronological period covered, although with earlier precedents, is between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries.
