LOOK, EXPERIENCE, PARTICIPATE. CULTURAL TOURISM AND HOLY WEEK
Keywords:
tourism;, holly week;, religiosity;Synopsis
This book addresses a well-established topic: tourism from an anthropological perspective, focusing on Holy Week. It does so from diverse perspectives, including those of the Catholic Church, resource managers, institutions charged with safeguarding heritage, and researchers. During this liturgical period, the boundaries between tourism and pilgrimage are blurred, but an ethnography of tourist flows in relation to host communities provides much insight into today's society. The basic literary and historical narrative of Holy Week, implemented over the centuries, continues to be modified, and these modifications are now driven by tourism, either to please visitors or to project a specific image of the host communities. These changes are constantly a source of debate and adjustment. This book aims to explain the changes that have taken place, with their progress and setbacks, and the different sensibilities.
