Synopsis

This volume examines the relationships between music, dance, festivals, rituals, and popular literature in the province of Soria. The authors of the various texts offer a mosaic of historical and current perspectives on Soria culture, presenting panoramic reviews or monographic studies that contribute to enriching the state of the art and addressing cross-cutting issues such as the concept of tradition and its uses, or the dynamics between continuity and change that characterize contemporary culture. The effectiveness of musical and choreographic practices in festive contexts, applied research and the social transfer of knowledge, and the links between music, identity, and memory are other topics considered from different perspectives, with the aim of providing verifiable information that, in turn, raises new questions. The works collected here constitute some of the results of the research project "Music, Dance, and Ritual in the Province of Soria: Historical Documentation and Current Processes of Change," funded by the Regional Government of Castile and León and carried out from 2013 to 2015 (reference: VA318U13).
