SERIES DIRECTOR

The current director of the series is Fernando Díez Martín (fernando.diez.martin@uva.es, ORCID: 0000-0001-7284-362X), Associate Professor of Prehistory at the University of Valladolid (since 2011) and Director of the Chair in African Studies at the same institution (since 2017). His research interests include palaeoanthropology, the European and African Paleolithic, spatial archaeology, regional archaeological analysis, lithic technology, anthropogenic post-sedimentary processes, and the intellectual history of paleoanthropology.

His fieldwork has taken place at numerous archaeological sites in Spain, Portugal, the Republic of Georgia, Tanzania, and the United States. He has served as Principal Investigator on three National R&D&I Plan projects, nine competitively funded foreign excavation projects by the Spanish Ministry of Culture (focused primarily on archaeological work in Tanzania’s Olduvai Gorge [www.olduvaiproject.org] and Peninj [www.peninjproject.org]), and seven research contracts (linked to investigations in the Duero plateau and the Palencian site of Cueva Corazón).

He is the author of four books, including El poblamiento paleolítico en los páramos del Duero (Publicaciones de la UVA, 2000) and El largo viaje: arqueología de los orígenes humanos y las primeras migraciones (Bellaterra, 2005), co-editor of three volumes, and author or co-author of 19 book chapters and 75 peer-reviewed articles (H-index: 20). He also translated The Philosophical Origins of Anthropology (Trotta, 2003) into Spanish.

He has participated in 25 national and international conferences and has been an invited speaker at 24 academic events. He is an external lecturer in the Master’s in Quaternary Studies at the University of the Basque Country. He has supervised two PhD dissertations and six postgraduate theses (undergraduate theses, DEA work, and master’s theses). He has conducted research stays at Indiana University and Kent State University (USA). His outreach activities include curating the exhibition In Africa 1.7 Million Years Ago: The Origins of the Acheulean (Regional Archaeological Museum of Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, 2018–2019).

SCIENTIFIC EDITORIAL COMMITTEE

EDITORIAL POLICY

The Studia Archaeologica series publishes original academic monographs in the fields of Prehistory and Archaeology, broadly understood in terms of concepts, methodologies, themes, chronology, and interdisciplinary scope. It is especially open to unpublished works by scholars affiliated with national and international academic institutions, while continuing to serve as a platform for the publication and visibility of research emerging from the Departments of Prehistory and Archaeology at the University of Valladolid.

CODE OF ETHICAL CONDUCT

This book series adheres to the Guide to Good Practices of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid, which subscribes to the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The guide sets forth ethical standards for authors, editorial committees, and reviewers, and all parties are expected to comply with the relevant guidelines.
