SO MANY TIMES LOPE: THE SELF-CONFIGURATION OF THE FIRST MODERN AUTHOR
Keywords:
Lope de Vega, Olmedo Classic, Spanish LiteratureSynopsis
From a very different and extremely original perspective, Cristina Gutiérrez Valencia explores the intricate relationships between literature and life in the creator of the Spanish comedy: Tantas veces Lope. The self-configuration of the first modern author. It is—so to speak—as if the poet were looking in the mirror of his own work. He offers us the construction of the image of himself that he wished to project to society. First, that of his time; but also that of future ages. With admirable tenacity, the playwright, condemned by his origins to a subordinate role, was determined to make himself present in artistic and social life. Hence his determination, clearly reflected in his writings, to intervene and, whenever possible, take center stage in the cultural activity of his century.
