Synopsis

Mining has left a deep mark on the landscape and on the territory of the Picos de Europa National Park, which after its abandonment constitutes an important cultural heritage. The Las Gramas mine is an underground exploitation system made up of multiple types of mining workings carried out during the last decades of the 19th century and the first two decades of the 20th century in the Picos de Europa. The mine and the industrial mining landscape of Las Gramas make up a unique heritage of great value for the Picos de Europa National Park due to the extraordinary character of high mountain mining, the representation of the extraction workings and the innovative systems inserted in the mining evolution of zinc at regional and national level. The revaluation of the mining landscape is proposed here, linked to its knowledge, understanding and use through a proposal of guided activities with interpretation of the cultural, industrial and natural heritage, as well as the living experience of the mine, combining the exterior and interior, natural and cultural heritage of the National Park.
