50 years of Urban Planning in Spain: 1975–2025
Keywords:

This publication accompanies the exhibition of the same name, “50 years of Urban Planning in Spain: 1975-2025,” organized by the University Institute of Urban Planning at the University of Valladolid and opened in Valladolid on April 13, 2026, which in turn stemmed from issue 224 of the journal “Ciudad y Territorio Estudios Territoriales”, published by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, dedicated to this same topic in 2025. Through various means, all these initiatives share the same goal of offering an assessment of the most recent period of Spanish urban planning, which extends to the present day and whose origins can be traced back to 1975: on the one hand, the death of the dictator Franco, and on the other, the approval of the reform of the Land Law constitute a clear turning point toward a new era, and its fiftieth anniversary encourages us to review and assess these last five decades, which have brought about a profound transformation of the country and its cities and territories.
