EDITORIAL POLICY

In accordance with UVa’s Second Equality Plan approved by the Governing Council, the Equality Committee has assessed the advisability of proposing to the University Press (Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid) the creation of a dedicated collection. This initiative would fulfil objective 1.5 of the Plan: “To promote, disseminate and accredit knowledge on gender equality”, and in particular the specific action: “To encourage the publication of teaching materials that integrate the gender perspective through the creation of a collection of works on equality”.

The aim is to provide the academic community with a platform to disseminate research conducted by specialists across all fields of knowledge, while also offering society as a whole reflections and data that can contribute to progress toward equality.

The works published in the collection will range between 700,000 and 800,000 characters, including spaces. The books will display the collection’s logo and have a dedicated graphic style designed in collaboration with the specialists at Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid.

The Scientific Committee is composed of highly regarded researchers, both nationally and internationally, from different areas of knowledge, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of gender studies.

The collection includes research conducted by specialists in the field, whether from the University of Valladolid or other national or international research centres, and is open—without restrictions—to any scholar wishing to submit a proposal, provided that it aligns with the collection’s editorial policy and thematic scope. Subject to budget availability for translation and publishing costs, the collection may also publish translations of significant works in the field of women’s studies and gender equality.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS AND PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The collection follows the general submission and peer review criteria established by Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid, which can be consulted on the "Publication proposals" page. The page also provides a downloadable publication proposal form and a template for the required format of submitted works. Manuscripts may be submitted via email (administracion.ediciones@uva.es) or by post to: Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid, C/ Juan Mambrilla, 14, 47003 Valladolid, Spain. In the designated section of the submission form, authors must clearly indicate that the manuscript is intended for the Igualdad Collection.

Manuscripts—ranging from 700,000 to 800,000 characters, including spaces—will first be reviewed by the directors of the collection and members of its Scientific Committee (as deemed appropriate) to ensure alignment with the collection’s editorial policy, editorial guidelines, and thematic scope. The evaluation will also assess originality, currency and relevance. Works that pass this initial review will undergo anonymous double-blind peer review to assess scholarly quality. Authors will not know the identity of the reviewers, nor will the reviewers know the identity of the authors. Therefore, authors must ensure that the manuscript contains no identifying information. At least two external reviews will be commissioned from recognised specialists in the relevant field, not affiliated with the University of Valladolid. In cases where two reviews are contradictory, a third review will be sought.

Based on the reviewers’ reports, authors will receive a detailed explanation of the outcome: accepted, accepted with revisions, or rejected. If accepted with revisions, the author must implement the changes recommended in the review reports and notify the Scientific Committee, which will make a final decision and issue a reasoned resolution. The evaluation process will be expedited wherever possible. Manuscripts may not be submitted to another publisher while this process is ongoing.

Books that successfully complete the review process will initially be published in print. After an embargo period of one year, during which sales will be prioritised, the books will also be made available digitally via the University of Valladolid’s Institutional Repository and/or other platforms linked to Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid. Authors will grant Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid the right to exploit the work nationally and internationally for the one-year embargo period. After the embargo period, the work may also be deposited in other open-access institutional or subject repositories, with clear attribution to Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid as the original publisher.
